So, I picked this book up for 60 cents a couple of weeks ago I picked it because it was short and the title and blurb made it look like a clich diary thing that I could read for fun real quick and maybe laugh about a little And true, I did get a couple laughs 1 Dedicated to Soozicool Lovin that spelling Ultimate tween.2 The lengthy email in the first chapter Here s an excerpt for you i had a bitch fight with my best friend recently, she s been such a bitch to me so yesterday i So, I picked this book up for 60 cents a couple of weeks ago I picked it because it was short and the title and blurb made it look like a clich diary thing that I could read for fun real quick and maybe laugh about a little And true, I did get a couple laughs 1 Dedicated to Soozicool Lovin that spelling Ultimate tween.2 The lengthy email in the first chapter Here s an excerpt for you i had a bitch fight with my best friend recently, she s been such a bitch to me so yesterday i chucked it and gave her this massive yelling lecture in front of the whole english class including the teacher and i said, y are u being such a bitch and y do u h8 me, in fact now i think about it, u ve always been a bitch to me and i reckon u ll always be a bitch and i can sit with whoever i want, u can t choose 4 me or order me around or say what i do is wrong cos u don t own me and why is everything i do not good enough 4 you, i m sick of u bagging me, pushing me around and bad mouthing me behind my back when u are probably worse than me, coz aside from me u haven t got any friends cause u ve been such a bitch to them that they h8 u too i ve put up with ur rude comments and greasy stares and 4 what and y is it ok for u to yell at me and get pissed off with me, but when i return it i ve committed a bloody crime or something i think u should shape up and think about how u ve been treating me and straighten urself out cos i m not gunna put up with this shit any longer go find someone else to torture, fat cow go bitch with someone else, Claire, cos u don t wanna mess with me This is so stereotypical tween young teen from the early noughties in Australia that I can t tell if it s real or not Either way, it made me laugh Fat cow and later, bitch bimbo cow broke me 3 The time stamp on this interesting conversation also made me laugh as it implies the author replied immediately after this was sent and the third email from the girl came 4 minutes BEFORE her first one I was glad to see Clark decided to stop dating the emails after a while to avoid these errors but I don t really understand why these dates weren t just taken out with the others.4 I ve got a Rottweiler called Alfred He s a babe Unfortunately, as I read , I found myself getting a little bit annoyed rather than amused The way this book was designed made it seem like a teen story in diary format but it was rather just a bunch of emails and diary entries copy pasted by the author with various comments and advice on certain matters So, I was a little disappointed that this wasn t what I expected. Some of the advice about listening, sexual abuse and feeling trapped at home was pretty true and reasonably good but overall, I found a lot of the book average to below average Even though it was supposed to be an advice book, most of it was just the author talking about their teens through old diary entries and clich quotes from her grandmother with some extra typos thrown in.I am aware that this book is 16 years old and I can t objectively judge it but still, I found most of the sentiments and advice outdated and potentially damaging at least by today s standards The book references a lot of old fashioned thinking and quite clich and heteronormative views The author says many times she is not an expert on anything but I feel like if one is to write on this area, you SHOULD be one, or at least close to one.So, in summary although some of the friends and family advice was good, I would probably refrain from recommending this to someone today I can t say this for certain as it is not 1999 but I doubt I would have recommended it at the time of publication either for these reasons

My goodness this was cool and so very edgy and mature when I was 12 An older girl who was very cool herself gave her copy to read which made me feel just as cool Not so sure what I d think now.
